Explore Sustainable Agriculture in Guatemala September 23, 2019 CATALYST Team Through the “Volunteer in Eco-Agriculture” trip, visitors have an opportunity to travel to Antigua, Guatemala, to work in an alternative agriculture program. Antigua is known for its exquisite Spanish colonial buildings which were restored after a devastating earthquake in 1773. On this trip, travelers learn extensively about eco-agricultural practices. Responsible farming relies more on individual workers than modern industrial farming, so help is a critical component in achieving agricultural sustainability. International volunteers work with local coffee and macadamia nut farmers, participating in picking, weeding, planting, processing and packaging. Enrollees must be at least 18 to participate and Spanish skills are helpful but not necessary. The program requires a minimum stay of one week at a cost of $665 and a maximum of five weeks for $1,445.CHECK OUT MORE CATALYST TRIPS HERE
