Journey to the West Fjords of Iceland
Endowed with a breathtaking topography of volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lava fields, Iceland has been aptly monikered the “Land of Fire and Ice” for its dramatically contrasting natural vistas. On this 9-day trip, travelers will first spend some time exploring the capital city of Reykjavík and the famous Golden Circle, a 300-kilometer route to the three most popular natural attractions in Iceland: the Geysir Geothermal Area, Gullfoss Waterfall and Thingvellir National Park. Then, travelers will stray from the more conventional tourist hotspots and venture to the less-traveled west fjords, stopping at small fishing villages along the way and sampling local delicacies. Travelers will also have the opportunity to encounter puffins at the majestic Látrabjarg bird cliffs, renowned for their rugged panoramas and for being the westernmost point of Iceland. On a drive along the fjords, travelers may glimpse the elusive arctic foxes known to populate the area, and can go horseback riding with well-known Icelandic horses. To conclude the journey, travelers will hike the 3,000-year-old Grábrók crater, the largest of three craters nestled within a short volcanic fissure.
This 9-day trip starts at $5,565 per person, and includes accommodation, 8 breakfasts, 1 lunch, 8 dinners and transportation. The trip is organized in partnership with Crisscross, a female-owned tour company that specializes in off-the-beaten-path adventures and farm tours throughout Iceland.
