Guyana, a country on South America’s North Atlantic coast, is home to some of the world’s largest and oldest cattle ranches. However, with the rapid socioeconomic and technological changes of these past few decades, the number of remaining ranches are low and far between, and ranchers are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain their traditional ways of living. As part of this project, travelers will venture to the savannas of South America and volunteer on a local remote cattle ranch. Volunteers will help ranchers generate the necessary income to sustain their ranches by setting up ecotourism facilities and assisting in a variety of other projects, including constructing new cattle fences, renovating the existing infrastructure, helping to bring in the cattle and managing them in the corral. Through this experience, volunteers will also gain a deeper understanding of life on the ranch while interacting with the local wildlife on an intimate level.
This minimum 4-week and maximum 8-week experience starts at $1,995 per person for 4 weeks and $2,595 per person for 8 weeks. Accommodation and meals at the ranch are all included.
